möbius frequently asked questions

General questions

  1. What is the minimum specification for Möbius?

    WaveSurgeon requires:

    • Windows 95 / 98 / NT;
    • A Pentium 200MMX (Pentium II recommended for use with plugins);
    • 16 Mb Ram (32Mb recommended);
    • A soundcard (preferably supporting sample upload, like the AWE, Pinnacle, or Terratec);

    A SCSI card and sampler are recommended for best results.

  2. I get a message - A required .DLL file, HHCTRL.OCX, was not found - when I run Mobius - help!

    Möbius uses the HTML help system, and it is likely that you will see this error message if you don't have the HTML system installed. To rectify this, go to the downloads section and follow the HTML help support link.

  3. How did Möbius get it's name?

    Möbius is named after the German mathematician August Ferdinand Möbius, and the loop which bears his name. A Möbius loop is one sided, but two dimensional object; it may be constructed by taking a rectangular strip of paper, twisting it 180 degrees, and joining both ends. Tracing a path around the loop will eventually result in a return to the original point, whilst cutting it in half will result in a two sided loop.

    The name therefore fits in with a fascination held since constructing a Möbius loop at primary school, the nature of the program itself (ie. to make loops), and a love of Orbital's music! Note that it can be alternatively spelt Moebius (the English version); I personally expect to receive lots of emails about Mobius. If anyone should wish to place the accent in their emails, hold down the ALT key and type 246.
